thats because part of the graph that is under the x-axis is the part which satisfies x2-3x-10<0 so the values of x for which this occurs is -2<x<5.... do u get what i mean>

you cant say that (x+2)<0 because it can be greater than 0 and have (x-5)<0 instead so either (x-5)<0 or (x+2)<0 not both, so u dont know which one shud be satisfied with out looking at the graph
