the vertices of a triangle are labeled clockwise A=(-6,3) B=(3,-5) C=(-1,5) , verify that is a right triangle , and find out the area , please help me, thanks.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

do you know how to find the lengths of lines joining the points eg length of AB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya but my answer for d(A,B) is sqrt of 145, d(B,C) is sqrt of 116 and d(A,C) is sqrt of 53 , so i guess it is not a right triangle but my answer for area got decimal..

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you are correct - its not a right angled triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how to claculate the area? just leave the answer with decimal ?

OpenStudy (espex):

No, you would use your formula of \(\frac{1}{2}b*h\) Since you already used the distance formula to determine part of the base, create a right triangle to determine the height.
