Solve for X: 3 over 8 = x + 2 over 7 | And a bit of how you worked it out would be awesome, I am so lost. Thanks in advance!

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Is this what you mean? Is x + 2 a quantity over 7? \( \dfrac{3}{8} = \dfrac{x + 2}{7} \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly, yes. I don't know how to type that that way.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Since you have a fraction equal to a fraction, the easiest way to solve it is by cross multiplying. Are you familiar with cross multiplication?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would be 3 to 7 and 8 to x+2, right? (bare with me here, math is my worst subject)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes you are correct. Here I'm showing it anyway. |dw:1373828156601:dw| |dw:1373828241919:dw|
