Use the sine ratio to find x. The hypotenuse is 85. The angle is 18 degrees and a right angle.

I understand the sine, cosine, and tangent formula but I do not know how to plug in the numbers on my calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1373838268098:dw| How do I figure out x using the formula for sine, cosine, and tangent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well sin is opp/hyp, cos is adj/hyp and tan is opp/adj. In this one it would be easiest to use sin so your equation would look like \[\sin(18^{o})=\frac{ x }{ 85 }\] does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. But how would I solve for x? If sin 18 = .3090 .... I'm still not sure how to turn it around to get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well assuming your calculator is using degrees. is sin 18 = .3090...... then just multiply by 85 and you get your answer 85sin(18)=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

26.3 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hope this helps!

YES! Thank you so much
