For a molecule to have optical isomers, it must have _____.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

chirality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these are my options: A)at least one asymmetric carbon B)at least three carbon atoms C)two or more asymmetric carbons D)exactly one carbon atom

OpenStudy (aaronq):

do you know what chirality means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no lol but now I feel stupid because i'm assuming the definition is one of the four choices huh?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

lol well don't feel stupid. but yeah, it's basically the definition. One asymmetric carbon on the molecule will give you enantiomers (which can, but not necessary are, optically active).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol well thank you! Your help is very much appreciated!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no problem !
