the question is, in chatting website, like omegle, do people use socket and directly connect to each other, OR... guy A send a message to the server, and server send this message to guy B, and vice versa? because in the first scenario, both users can retrieve each other's IP, and in the second scenario, since u are connecting to a server, u can not.. right? and which scenario is facebook chat? THANKS SO MUCH!!! waiting for ur answer!!

Directly connect to the server? Firstly, thats the purpose of sockets. To provide a connection to a server, which else would be impossible. The whole point of sockets is to send messages to people directly, like to point A and to point B. So basically they are both the same scenario. And none of them provide IP addresses unless if you specifically program them to do so. Long-pull AJAX requests are another method of doing something like what sockets does.
