Precalc question, pic attached
well since you have to expresions and they equal 0, one of them has to be 0 by th multiplication property a*0=0 anyways set the first equation equal to 0 cosx+1=0 cosx=-1 what values do you get for that?
x=2piN-pi?
huh?
x=2?
not quite .
grr
Do you have a calaculator or uni circle nearby?
yes
unit
Ok well on the unit circle there are x and y values, the x values are the cos and the y the sin of the angle i it
oh i have a calculator but ok...
x=cos and y= sin
Ok first off i find it hlpful to memeorize the unit circle http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/images/circle-unit-304560.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/unit-circle.html&h=279&w=366&sz=13&tbnid=_6Om16JZLkXUaM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=118&zoom=1&usg=__CqGo36F2KuwkOjsVtdiANgmuWoM=&docid=dJkySTuOBEh4FM&sa=X&ei=5qHjUaqXHMeu4AOjqICwBg&ved=0CDoQ9QEwAw&dur=272
This will be helpful later on in pre-calc but anyways we wont deal with that right now
anyways type in -1 and take the cos^(-1) of that
ok i came up with 2PI/3 while messing with the equation and since thats one of the choices i think ill go with that
thank you for guiding me in the right direction
Nope,
Look at the unit circle, find -1,0 on the circle, it will show you which angle has a cos of -1 and thats pi
There's a lot more to this questio, are you willin to learn?
