please help! What number(s) should be excluded as values of x in the polynomial http://curriculum.kcdistancelearning.com/courses/ALG1x-HS-A06/b/Exams/9HW2/9HW2_q1.gif

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

2 and -2 since (2)^2 = 4 and (-2)^2 = 4 and 4 - 4 = 0 in the denominator which is undefined and you don't want that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't understand that, sorry

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

you have (x + 2) / (x^2 - 4) the denominator (the bottom part) cannot be 0 because then it will be undefined so, you want to exclude 2 and -2 as values for x since (2)^2 -4 = 0 and (-2)^2 -4 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

: x values that make the denominator 0 should be excluded : x^2 - 4 = 0 Factor the difference of squares (x-2)(x+2) = 0 x = +2 and x = -2, should be excluded

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since it cant be 2or-2 and all my answer choices are in some form of that it has not excluions?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

2 and -2 are your exclusions

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

what do your answer choices look like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooo...
