giving medals Find the percent of discount to the nearest percent if a telescope’s regular price is $180 and the sale price is $126. a. 25% c. 30% b. 50% d. 75%

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is the difference in the prices?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

percent of discount .... read it wrong i think

OpenStudy (amistre64):

180 (d) = 126 d = 126/180

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we pay 126/180 of it, so our discount is 1 - 126/180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what the answer?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the answer is the result of: 1 - 126/180

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and im guessing this is a copy paste since the options are out of order .... if the options were originally like this: a c b d the copy paste would have them "out of order" as: a c b d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, what do we get when we work out: 1 - 126/180 which ironically is that same as: (180-126)/180 which is what i had originally thought the question to be asking to begin with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok my not smart and clearly you are so, idk

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you need to use a calculator, thats fine ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yes im new

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i am in summer school rite now

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sadly, im not ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you do this for fun?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, i do this to stave off boredom while at work. And i find it fun to be able to see other peoples ideas towards solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how old are you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a lost track after the Mayan calendar ended ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but really?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im old ..... or at least thats what my children tell me. But back to the problem we can rule out 50% and above since the sale price would have been 90 or less

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat

OpenStudy (amistre64):

90 is half of 180, and 45 is half of that ... that gets us to 25% off as a possibility 180 -45 ----- 145 as a price ... which is not 126 so it not 50% and above, or 25% and below that leaves us one option left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c. 30?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i agree with 30% yes.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

also, (180 - 126)/180 = .30

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx
