How about when you throw a ball or something else. The trajectory that the object goes in is a parabola.

Wow! Where to start... How about a simple stopping distance of a car given velocity (or what the velocity was given the braking distance)--which is used by investigators of collisions

You would have to use the quadratic equation to find out where the ball hits zero.
