Refer to your math writing journal file Deductive Reasoning. What school rule, written as a conditional, did you choose? How is the Law of Detachment used in applying the rule? Pleaseee help!!/:

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

So uhm, did u choose a school rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I did ! Mine one is that 1) Students can't be absent for more that 3 days or they have pay fine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*to

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Okay, and do you know what the law of detachment is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No :/

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

hm, ok lets find out what that is first! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

So there are two laws. Law of Syllogism and Law of Detachment. Law of Syllogism is where if p =>q then q=>r Example: 1) If it snows today, then I will wear my gloves. 2) If I wear my gloves, my fingers will get itchy. Let p be the statement "it snows today", let q be the statement "I wear my gloves", and let r be the statement "my fingers get itchy". Law of Detachment is where if p ➡ q is a true conditional statement and p is true, than q is true Example: 1) If you are a penguin, then you live in the Southern Hemisphere. 2) You are a penguin. Let p be the statement "you are a penguin", let q be the statement "you live in the Southern Hemisphere".

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Do you understand it a bit now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To be honest, I did but I dont know what to do next

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

So...what do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How to make my statement as conditional ? How is it gonna apple for Law of Detachment ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*apply

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Well to put something into a conditional statement, there has to be an 'if' and 'then"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okaayyyy ! I get it Thank you though :)

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Np!! :)
