find roots of x^3+2x^2-5x-6?

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

By inspection try to find one root first

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

i would first test if +1 and -1 are roots are not

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

test +1 1+2-5-6 reject

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

test -1 -1 + 2 +5 -6 -7+7 0 Yes, -1 is a root

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

since -1 is a root, (x+1) is a factor of given polynomial

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

divide it, and you wud get a quadratic which is easy to solve

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

with amount of technology around, i suggest you just graph the function using calculator of software and check for any rational roots to factor out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i used both methods. thank you very much. so helpful!
