OpenStudy (anonymous):

neutron has no charge. In nucleus, why force of attraction exists between proton and neutron in nucleus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what?!.. protons repel neutrons?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

coz of strong nuclear force... it is an exchange force nd greater than electromagnetic force

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the cause for nuclear force? like the cause for Coulomb force is Electric field. @stgreen @mr.singh @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cause for nuclear force is not all that easy to understand as far as i know.. its called as an exchange force.. imagine two kids who like a toy very much.. and if they have only one toy.. then they woudl stick to each other.. right? similarly here protons and neutrons are exchanging a class of elementary particles called as pi mesons (pions).. there are three types.. so its this exchange that keeps them together! but i think this is just a very crude and a highly simplified explanation.. definitely to dig deep you need to go for quantum mechanics!

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Wait there are two types of nuclear forces (the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force) which are we dealing with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one of the probable answer is the Exchange of Mesons
