help please

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

With what?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

sorry i was screen shotting it

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

Not a problem, first to find h(f(x)) we subst the given value for x in f, 5, in fx and get 10. We then subst this value into hx and get 300 - 20 + 5. Then we do the same for h(1) in gx. Then adding together gives the answer.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

can u help me solve it step by step

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

Ok. h(f(5)) - g(h(1)) = h(5+5) - g(3 - 2 +5) substuting given values for x in the respective functions. =h(10) - g(6) (again substituting numbers for x) =3(10)^2 - 2(10) + 5 - (6^2 - 4(6) + 5) = 3(100) - 20 + 5 -36 + 24 -5 =300 -32 =268.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

so when i substistute the numbers i use the number thats given

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

ok with the second one it doesnt have a number to sub with

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

Sorry, I got side-tracked there a minute :) No it doesnt. I will be right with you.

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

(f + g)(x) = f (x) + g(x) = x + 5 + x^2 - 4x + 5 =x^2-3x+10
