free medal and fan, Please help me :/ stuck :/ The rates-First 1/6 mile (or fraction) $1.10 Each additional 1/6 mile (or fraction) 20¢ Passenger pays any tolls What would the taxi fare be for a trip that was 5 miles each way with $.90 in tolls each way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep getting 19.1 but the answers are not that sigh

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

ok so you have to pay $1.10 to get on the bus and you have to pay $0.20 every 1/6 of a mile now try to solve that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do 5-1/6 to get the first 1.10 off and get 4.83 then i divided by 1/6 to get how many times it is in the number, and times it by 20 to get 16.1 then plusthe toll 1.8 and got 17.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then with the 1.10 itd be 19

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

is that a awnser choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, only $15.60 $7.80 $14.80

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

how about you try to solve it this way

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

\[1.10+(.20\times5)\]

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

but remember to multiply by 1/6 at the end of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2.10 now do i *1/6 ?

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

ok try this one it might be easier to solve

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

\[1.10+.90(.20\times1/6)5\]

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

do you only have 3 choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i got 13 for that problem

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

that is wrong but nice try the problem doesn't cost that much try again one more time and see what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i got 2.15 :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did the first part, 1.10 plus .90 and then i times the middle and got .03, and times by 5 to get .15

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

ok just retry the question one more time and start in the middle first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So.. its the 7.80 right?

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

correct good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh thank you! I couldnt of done it without you, your the best.

OpenStudy (goldeverything):

its no problem anytime
