What is the lateral surface area of the cylinder? 12(pi symbol) cm squared 18(pi symbol) cm squared 216(pi symbol) cm squared 288(pi symbol) cm squared

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The lateral surface area of a cylinder is the area of a rectangle that has as dimensions the circumference of the base and the height of the cylinder. \(LA = 2 \pi r h = \pi dh \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay. so what do i do now? @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(LA = \pi d h = \pi \times 12 ~cm \times ~18 cm \) Just multiply it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is wat i got( 678.24) i dont think i did it right

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Notice the answers have \(\pi\) in them. Just multiply 12 and 18 and leave \(\pi\) in the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok. thank you. i received the answer 216

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Right. The answer is \(216 \pi \) which is choice C.
