Factor completely, then place the factors in the proper location on the grid. y^2 - xy - 56x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

medal 100% if you answer

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\large (y+ax)(y-bx)\qquad=\qquad y^2+\color{royalblue}{(a-b)}xy-\color{orangered}{ab}x^2\] \[\large y^2+\color{royalblue}{(-1)}xy-\color{orangered}{56}x^2\] Understand the way I colored these? We want `factors` of 56 that will add/subtract to give us -1. What factors of 56 will do that for us? :) Can you think of them?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Come on clay +_+ you gotta put a little effort in here!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-(8x-y)(7x+y) i come up with this but it dosent match can you help look on screen

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm that should be correct. Maybe your website is just being picky. Trying entering it this way instead, (y-8x)(y+7x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since 7−8=−1 and 7×−8=−56 you can factor as (y−8x)(y+7x) i have no idea how to put in in the grid though...

zepdrix (zepdrix):

No? :o Drag the symbols to the grid. Start with a bracket in the first slot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one sec i put then screen you will see

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oh the instructions say to click, not drag. My bad. So click a symbol, then click an open spot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i think it need diffrent answer if it dosent match

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(y−8x)(y+7x) may be this is wrong because on problem the answer dosent match at the end look on screen

OpenStudy (ash2326):

factors are correct, where it says it's wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look on screen im trying to finish but seven is one block far and they put that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or you can do (y+x7) then it will fit but im not sure if its right way

OpenStudy (ash2326):

you can change the characters by double click, Put in the form as the y-8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

type your answer i trying put yours

OpenStudy (ash2326):

\[(y-8x)(y+7x)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eyeyeyey matched:) can i ask you more questions because i have another 2 that stucked and don't maatch

OpenStudy (ash2326):

did you solve them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16ax + 4x2 +16a2 Answer ---> 4(2a+x)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same here :/ factors right but they don't fit

OpenStudy (ash2326):

double click and remove and then put the symbols

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one thing those symbols put system

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are not erasable i need to finish but how they put they put it my answer won't fit how they put

OpenStudy (ash2326):

you can remove them or take the 4 to the end

OpenStudy (ash2326):

\[4(x+2a)^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

_ _ (_ _ _a__ <---- those ( a not removable

OpenStudy (ash2326):

try the expression which I have posted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factor(y^2x - y^x - 20) answer -y^x+xy^2-20 this one not working too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they put 4 at the end

OpenStudy (ash2326):

then you can try that, put 4 at the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how
