Translate the following phrases into algebraic expressions. Explain, in complete sentences, the difference between the two. (1.) The difference of 3 and x times 2 (2.) 3 times x minus 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to put this into numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The difference means subtraction and times means multiplication.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't it 2(4+x) = 2 * 4x 8 + 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm afraid not. The first one says the difference of 3 and x times 2. This would be written as 3 + x(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops I am sorry that would be 3 - x(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, wouldn't the second equation be 3(x-2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You got it. (:
