Please help, I'm stuck. Use the distributive property to simplify the expression below: −2(2d − 2) + 5d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay distributive property is when you take the number outside the parethesis and multiply it with the numbers on the inside of the parenthesis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get that, But for some reason I can't get it right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So simplifying it with distributive property would look like this. -4d + 4 + 5d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simplifying it further would make the equation -9d + 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually that's wrong if you simplify it further you get d+4 because 5d isn't negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But doesn't the 5d and the negative 4d get added like to d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4d and 5d yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I forgot the bigger number comes first. I didn't mean to confuse anybody.

No worries, Alright thank you very much :)
