@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

which function undoes sine?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you have sin(x) = 7/9 you need some kind of function that will "cancel" out the "sin" on the left side so you can isolate x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inverse?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

inverse sine, good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

also known as arcsine

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you need to apply the arcsine function to both sides to isolate x sin(x) = 7/9 arcsin( sin(x) ) = arcsin(7/9) x = arcsin(7/9) x = ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i type in sin-1(7/9)? i know how to do inverse sine just not the fraction.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sin^-1 does NOT mean 1/sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would i simplifiy then do it?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

inverse sine is its own function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's why I like to call it arcsine instead of sin^-1 to avoid confusion

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what kind of calculator are you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dream calc online.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok you can use google (that's what I use when I want to share calculation results online) type in "arcsin(7/9) in degrees" without quotes into google and you will get this page https://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=arcsin%287%2F9%29+in+degrees&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGLL_enUS420US420&ie=UTF-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

51.0575587?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks man.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
