jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
which function undoes sine?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you have sin(x) = 7/9
you need some kind of function that will "cancel" out the "sin" on the left side so you can isolate x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
inverse?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
inverse sine, good
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
also known as arcsine
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so you need to apply the arcsine function to both sides to isolate x
sin(x) = 7/9
arcsin( sin(x) ) = arcsin(7/9)
x = arcsin(7/9)
x = ??

how do i type in sin-1(7/9)?
i know how to do inverse sine just not the fraction.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
sin^-1 does NOT mean 1/sin

would i simplifiy then do it?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
inverse sine is its own function
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ik.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
that's why I like to call it arcsine instead of sin^-1 to avoid confusion
