Solve the inequality. –6b > 42 or 4b > –4

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

how would you solve say 4b = –4 for "b"?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-6b > 42 (divide by -6) b < -7 (but remember, when dividing by a negative, the inequality sign changes)

im not understanding

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you work out an inequality like an equation except there are some rules for inequalities that you must follow. One such rule is when you divide or multiply by a negative, the inequality sign changes. -6b > 42 (we will divide both sides by -6 to get b by itself) -6b/-6 > 42/-6 (the inequality rule states that when dividing or multiplying by a negative, the inequality sign changes) b < -7.

thank u very much
