you need to look first the triangles inside your prism |dw:1374259217444:dw| the little triangle is the one on the bottom, it is rectangular and you know two of it's sides by using the pythagorean theorem, you can find the BC side \[4^{2} + 4^{2} = BC ^{2}\] and you apply the same theorem on the big triangle ABC \[AC ^{2} + BC ^{2} = AB ^{2}\] you can find the BC from the first picture and equation, and you know that AB is 7 inches it is just calculus from here. if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. p.s. the first equation gives you the answer to the second question;)
