Find the value of the following: -32 + ( (5 (8-6) ) / 2 + 45 ) / 5

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

\[\large \large -32 + [ 5 (8-6) \div 2 + 45 ] \div 5\] You would want to do order of operation to solve this. According to order of operation, you would want to do parenthesis first. So what does 8 - 6 give us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Great. So now it should look like: \[\large \large -32 + [ 5 (2) 2 + 45 ] \div 5\] Now we have to do the bracket. We still have to do order of operation in the bracket. So we do multiplication. Do we do 5 * 2 first, or 2 * 2? According to order of operation, which ever come first from left to right. So we do 5 * 2. What does tah give us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10+45 right

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Good. \[\large \large -32 + [ 10 \div 2 + 45 ] \div 5\] My bad. It was a division, not multiplication. But so far it is correct. What does 10 /2 give us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Great! Now 5 + 45 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Good. Your on a role. :)\[\large \large -32 + 50 \div 5\] Now what do you think you do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50 / 5

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Good. So what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Good. So what does -32 + 10 give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-22

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Good. So the answer is -22. I hope this help! :)
