I WILL FAN AND MEDAL THE PERSON THAT ANSWERS THIS QUESTION! Question 6 (Multiple Choice Worth 3 points) [7.01] Choose the correct classification of 4x4 − 4x3 + 10x6. 4th degree trinomial 12th degree trinomial 3rd degree trinomial 6th degree trinomial
Isn't this part of a test/exam?
I'm assuming the 4 after 4x is the degree/power raised? If that's the case, then all you need to do is just look at the highest exponent, and that will tell you the degree of the polynomial. Trinomial means that there are 3 numbers in the polynomial. A binomial would only be two. Ex: x + 2. Polynomial just means multiple numbers.
the 4 the 3 and the 6 are all exponets , so do you mean 13+3?
@SOS101 Okay, so if those are the exponents, which of those is of the greatest value? Exponent = Power = Degree. They are synonymous. I'm not sure what you mean by the "13+3."
Ohhh so it would be 9+3=12
And i said 13+3 because i thought i had to add up the exponents and add them +3 because a Trinomial is 3
It helps if you reorganize your trinomial in order of greatest degree to lowest. \[10x ^{6} +4x ^{4} - 4x ^{3}\] You don't add them together. The degree is literally the number of your highest exponent. If I have a binomial, lets say \[2x ^{2}+4x\] Then my binomial has a degree of 2.
@RPguy
So the degree is 6 or 3?
@SOS101 Well, what's the highest exponent? ;)
So its 3?
I'm sorry im pretty slow :(
Let me try to re-explain this. Your exponents are 3, 4, and 6. One of those determines the degree of the polynomial. Don't worry about the amount of terms (binomial, trinomial, etc.) Those don't matter when determining the degree. The degree is determined solely by the highest leading exponent. So look at the exponents that it gave you: 3, 4, and 6. Which one is the bigger number? That determines your degree. Exponent = Power = Degree.
Ohhhhh So its the 6TH Degree
:)
