Help !! Write the equation of the line in slope intercept form that is represented in the graph below.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

y=mx+b find m by taking the rise/run, between the two points find b by checking the y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 rise 6 run ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

well, if you're counting squares. except the rise and run have to be figured in the same direction. you've done one in the opposite order. As you went 6 squares to the right, the line dropped 4 squares, it didn't rise 4 squares.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

it turns out not to matter that you counted squares instead of finding the difference between the coordinates, so long as the squares are, well, square :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i counted the sqaures and it was 6,4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

no, it's 6, -4.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the two points given are \[(x_1,y_1)=(-3.75,-1.75)\\(x_2,y_2)=(-0.75,-3.75)\] the rise between theses points is \(y_2-y_1\) the run between these points is \(x_2-x_1\)
