you can use multiple points for this argument, one that could be used is propaganda and how both religion and government uses it. 
 Another good example would be war, government and religion both cause them, but in such a thing like crusades would be good to bring up for a point and another case was when the English took over India and they tried to get them to fight but used animal products and it made the Hindus and Muslims who were fighting against each other to come together and fight the british
