I need info on LINEAR PARTICLE ACCELERATORS not the large ones - the type used in physics labs thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can build one using metal trash cans ! but some handy work is needed plus a good amount of power.

OpenStudy (festinger):

The idea behind linear particle accelerators only allows you to accelerate charged particles and uses the concept of potential difference. A common version passes current through a cathode, heating it and causing the electrons to be ejected, and since they experience an electric force due to the electric field from the anodes, they go down the potential gradient and gain kinetic energy. http://www.a-levelphysicstutor.com/elect-cro.php
