Could you define what exactly you mean by simplified

Do you want an equivalent expression, which is the ratio of two polynomials?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ y + 2 }{ y - 3 }\] Because the factors of \[y^{2} -2y - 8 \] are (y+2)(y-4) While the factors of \[y^{2} - 7y - 12\] are (y-4)(y-3) Since (y-4) is common to both eliminate it and what's left is \[\frac{ y + 2 }{ y - 3 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) y-2/y+3 b) y+2/y+3 c) y+2/y-3 d) y-2/y-3
