Where would you find methanogens, which can function only in the absence of oxygen? A roots of plants B human intestine C synthetic fertilizers
@Elvia ... where would oxygen be absent among the options you've provided?
Synthetic fertilizers
Human intestine
Roots of plants
Synthetic fertilizers : are “Man made” inorganic compounds - usually derived from by-products of the petroleum industry. Examples are Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonium Phosphate, Superphosphate, and Potassium Sulfate. Now... the methanogenic bacteria are related to each other primarily by their mode of energy metabolism but are very diverse with respect to their other properties. Methanogenic bacteria obtain their energy for growth from the conversion of a limited number of substrates to methane gas. and roots need oxygen..as well as human intestine...Soo What you think? @Elvia
Human intestine am I right?
It's synthetic fertilizers
It's the human intestine actually because the human intestine is devoid of oxygen and it is only the anaerobes which can survive in that environmental conditions. The options are pretty tricky. The synthetic fertilizer when added to the soil will have access to oxygen in the air. What do you think @Ryaan? P.S: Piece of evidence that there's no oxygen in the intestine: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21073287
So I was right
Elvia when you're sure about answers don't asks here.:p
I was not sure really this is very hardcore with your help I can do this
"Due to the oxygen lacking characteristic of the large intestine, the organisms that thrive in this niche are anaerobes. " Got it from here: http://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Large_Intestine
