When does the process of digestion begin? A. Before you put food in your mouth B. Once it reaches the intestines C. Upon reaching the stomach D. When you begin chewing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its obviously not A ...lol In the mouth. Chewing is the first stage of digestion. Also, saliva helps to break down food by moistening it and contains an enzyme called amylase that break down carbohydrates. (starches into sugars)...

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Wrong. The correct answer is A. Your body begins preparations for digestions simply by the smell or sight of food. (even thoughtS)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only reason I might disagree with D is because it says "when you begin CHEWING." If digestion were to begin in our mouths, then it would begin as soon as the food went inside our mouths, yes? Our saliva would begin to break the food down right away. The digestive process wouldn't have to wait until we actually began chewing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That means its A?? :/

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I'm the Ambassador of this section. Take my word of certain food. at the smell, sight, or thought of certain food. For example, when you smell meat, your body starts producing amino acids to break it down.

Ambassadors are assigned sections now?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Yes.
