I will give a medal! What is the value of the dependent variable if the value of the independent variable is –4? f(x)=-5x+x/-2

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

the independent variable is x

OpenStudy (science0229):

As ivettef365 said, the independent variable is x. So the dependent variable would be y, which is written as f(x) here. Plug -4 for x, and the equation would be -5(-4)+(-4/-2). Simplify, and you'll get 20 +2, or 22
