when my computer is slow and i try to open up my messages, it always says there is one sole message from a person named shadowfiend that read, " I'm a masseuse." Does this happen to anyone else around here?

That text always appears when the page loads...

Don't think of it as a placeholder, it is a placeholder ;) It's a template that we then use to display the proper messages. Someone (*cough* @mattfeury *cough*) thought it would be funny to make that the default text :p
