I need help on #12!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cannot determine from given information. There's not enough data or information to form a graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I'm assuming is that 10 is the y intersect which you can't have a slope because it's not given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All it's asking for is after 10, but since you don't have a slope can't determine how the graph would be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the y is also in parenthesis. I think it's just defining it as the x. If it's actually 10x it would've been just like i typed without the parenthesis.

hero (hero):

Well, this is kind of hard to explain without giving it away. It says the graph represents cost, y, vs. inches of diameter, x, .....after 10.... Figuring out what the after "10" applies to is a mystery since they put x right after it. Choices are the only two graphs that show something "after 10" but that's for the y variable. I'm not sure if you can determine the correct graph from the given info.

hero (hero):

I can't determine anything from it. Maybe you should get another opinion from someone else.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

The word "after" seems to be the problem. Perhaps this is the correct understanding. x is the independent variable. AFTER selecting x, we have y = 10x. Which one has a slope of 10 and passes through the Origin? Guessing but plausible.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Numbers are too small. I can't read them. If I were forced to guess, I might be tempted to go with B.

hero (hero):

and not E? I don't see the logic that would lead you to choose B over E @tkhunny

hero (hero):

There's nothing even remotely close to that. You can't just ignore the word "after".

hero (hero):

And its not 10x. They don't give a formula

hero (hero):

"after 10" definitely suggests nothing about 10x

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That's right. Again, if I were forced to guess, recalling that I am guessing what "after" means and I can't read the numbers, I might go with B. I gave a plausible meaning for "after". Obviously Hero doesn't like it. I'm okay with that. Sometimes, you just have to take a shot at it. It is always good to point out ambiguity that makes the problem statement perhaps not so simple as might have been intended. Without anyone forcing me to do anything, I would punt on this one.

hero (hero):

smh

hero (hero):

E to me is the only logical choice

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I suggested B as a possibility ONLY under the assumptions I provided. If you don't believe those assumptions, don't you dare select B.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I'm just providing an additional argument. We can't let Hero jump to conclusions without a little challenge. Frankly, I agree with Hero entirely.

OpenStudy (mary.rojas):

sorry but i have no clue dude

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Seriously? Just mark E and move on.

OpenStudy (mary.rojas):

lol
