Once you do that, we can apply the theorem needed to solve the problem. Note: Points in Geometry are denoted by capital letters so "p, q, and r are three different points" should be P, Q, and R are three different points.

Do I place them randomly? Because the question doesn't have a figure to work with.

The vertices of the triangle can be placed randomly. But, once you do that, the placement of the algebraic expressions for the sides formed will not be arbitrary.
