b^3+9b^2+8b-30 ____________________ b+3 ??? @Jack174
$$b^2+6b-10$$
When doing these problems you really are following a pattern. You pretty much go back and forth doing divide, multiply, subtract, divide, multiply, subtract until you go as far as you can. So the first thing you do is divide the variable terms. In this case you would have b^3 divided by b. This gives you b^2 and would go on top of your radical. That was the division part, now the multiplication part. You will then multiply your new found b^2 by each term you are trying to divide by. So in this case, you would multiply b^2 by (b+3), lining up this answer underneath your equation under the root. After doing this, you will have something that looks like b^2 b+3 | b^3+9b^2 + 8b - 30 b^3 +3b^2 Now you see that I have b^3 + 3b^2 lined up underneath the appropriate terms. Now I want to subtract those b^3 and 3b^2 terms from the above. Subtract cancels out the b^3 terms and leads to a 9b^2 - 3b^2 = 6b^2. After doing this, I will bring down the 8b term and do the process over again, now having an equation that looks something like b^2 b+3 | b^3 + 9b^2 + 8b - 30 -b^3 - 3b^2 6b^2 + 8b So now I go back to my division. I will take the leading variable terms and divide them, so I will have 6b^2 divided by b, leaving me with 6b. Now I have done my division, back to the multiplication step. 6b multiplies by (b+3), with the answer being lined up underneath like before. This would look something like b^2 + 6b b+3 | b^3 + 9b^2 + 8b - 30 -b^3 - 3b^2 6b^2 + 8b 6b^2 + 18b Now I subtract again. The 6b^2 terms cancel and 8b - 18b = -10b. Now I will drop down the -30 term and repeat the process one more time. b^2 + 6b b+3 | b^3 + 9b^2 + 8b - 30 -b^3 - 3b^2 6b^2 + 8b -6b^2 - 18b -10b - 30 -10b is divided by b, leaving us with -10, which goes on top of the radical. Now as before, division leads to multiplication with the -10 being multiplied by (b+3) and being lined up underneath like before. b^2 + 6b - 10 b+3 | b^3 + 9b^2 + 8b - 30 -b^3 - 3b^2 6b^2 + 8b -6b^2 - 18b -10b - 30 -10b - 30 Now I subtract -10b - -10b which cancels and -30 - -30 which cancels, leaving my complete answer to be b^2 + 6b - 10
wow, why do you do this, you don't even know him psymon
is he really worth your time
he probably wont even read it
