A sales manager buys antacid in bottles by the gross. If he goes through 3 bottles of antacid every day, how long will the gross last? A. 144 days B. 3 days C. 20 days D. 48 days explain please
That depends on how long he spends in the hospital - taking that much antacid with make digestion nearly impossible. :-)
Do you know how many is in a gross? If not, just google it.
ok wait
Google is amazing. Anytime you don't completely understand a word or phrase, google it. Once you understand all the words, the question will become much easier.
so 144 in one gross.............
And consuming 3 bottles a day. How many days will 144 bottles last?
If I have 24 ounces of water and I drink 1 ounce per minute, how many minutes will it take me to drink all the water?
432?
How did you get that?
whoa nvm i 144x3
Now, you got it. :-)
i was right???? @gypsy1274
Almost, but do the calculation to see if it makes sense.
ill try.. hmmm then if i dont get it can you get back on me pls? @gypsy1274
multiplication and division are opposite operations. Sometimes they can be reversed as easily as someone who is dyslexic reverses b's and d's.
I'll get an alert as soon as you respond so if I'm still online - I'll check back.
@gypsy1274 is it B.?
How did you get that answer?
You were close with 144 * 3, with one small mistake.
i dont get it cuz it didnt say how many days... he just uses 3 bottles every day but, how many days? @gypsy1274
He starts with 144 bottles and uses 3 bottles each day. The problem is asking you to figure out how many days. To put it another way...if you were to add 3 many times over, how many times would you add 3 (starting with 0) to get to 144 or what times 3 = 144?
oh i thought the 144 is the gross inside the bottle or something... i didnt know it was talking about 144 bottles..so D.48?
Yes. That is the correct answer.
thank you ^_^ @gypsy1274 thanks for helping me step by step
No problem. The question is, do you really understand what you have done here? I can write another problem to help you learn it if you want.
@gypsy1274 yes please
If I have 24 ounces of water and I drink 1 ounce per minute, how many minutes will it take me to drink all the water?
Or, if your driving 100 miles per hour (your speed demon! Watch out for cops!) and you want to go 1500 miles, how long will it take you to get there?
haha iight i need time lol calm down XD @gypsy1274
first one is 24 mins right? and the 2nd one is...wait
Glad I could brighten your day. Yes to the first answer. That question was inspired by my water bottle. :-)
lol funny @gypsy1274 .. what a nice bottle you got there hahaha
OK speed demon, how long will it take you to get where you are going?
900 mins? @gypsy1274
That is correct. I was expecting the answer in hours since I gave you the speed in miles per hour. While your answer is correct, changing the units like that will cause you to lose points on these standardized exams.
well so how many hours?:< and yeay im KINDA right :D @gypsy1274
In the days before the latest round of state tests, my nephew said "I'm off to school, where they beat the imagination out of you!" He is not wrong. All this standardization kills creativity.
You are correct. Not kind of correct. You understand the problem, you just converted it to minutes. Now convert it back to hours.
@gypsy1274 haha true :D
Or even easier, distance divided by rate = time
thatll take forever haha how...
oh that....
minutes divided by 60 = hours because there are 60 minutes in an hour.
15 hours?
Yes. Do you feel like you understand, or would you like to do more?
You can always find practice math problems on Khan Academy - www.khanacademy.org -> If you want, I could be your coach on there. It's free, just like this site. and a great supplement to school instruction (just like here.) It never hurts to have more resources.
@gypsy1274 thanks :D i signed up too.. send me messg :D good night
