find tan x/2 given tan x= -3 and 90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the question is asking what is tan (-3/2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No we are suppose to use a half angle identity, however i am not sure what one to use to solve this problem, The answer should be (sqrt10)+1 divided by 3 im just not sure how to get there

|dw:1374625541688:dw| it is a quadratic equation in terms of tan(x/2) take tan(x/2)=y and solve for y will will probably get 2 values for y. select the +ve one, because y=tan(x/2) and tan(x/2) is positive in the domain. can you proceed?
