Help please? Factor completely: −4x2 + 16x − 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4(x-2)^2 - 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is an alternate form, but it is certainly not in factored form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it isn't?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[−4x^2 + 16x − 24 \] all terms have a common factor of \(- 4\) you can start with \[-4(x^2-4x+6)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and actually that is the best you can do, because the inside piece does not factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=-4(x-2)^2 - 8 \] is "vertex" from, not factored form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
