Find the solution(s) to the system, if one or more exist. Write your answer as an ordered pair. Round to the nearest hundredth, if necessary. y=x^2+4x-3 x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone help me figure this out please step by step ???

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

plug in x = 1 to the first equation, and then y = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 im guessing ?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

x^2 + 4x - 3 put a 1 where you see an x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1^2+4(1)-3

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

= ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 ?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this is an odd question, are you sure you typed it as is? It says x = 1?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this is not a system

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im positive, so is it no solution.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

its not that it has no solution, its not a system its simply a function evaluated at 1

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I guess the solution is x = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats how the problem is written ?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

a solution is an x value, we are told x = 1, so the solution is x = 1

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

but the question does not make sense...there is no reason to ask it like this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a try 1. does this one work? Find the solution(s) to the system. Round answers to the nearest hundredth, if necessary. y=-0.5x^2+6 y=3.25
