Ohh, this sounds really cool! The main way to create vivid imagery is to be contentious in how you describe actions / characters. A really great gothic story to read is the 'Raven' by Edgar Allen Poe because of how descriptive he is: http://www.heise.de/ix/raven/Literature/Lore/TheRaven.html
