An ethyl ester is an isomer of 2-ethyl-3-methylbutanoic acid, and it contains a branched hydrocarbon chain and it is chiral. Give its displayed formula. Now this is the correct formula, but my question is, why is the branched hc chain only one carbon long? Is this because the ethyl part becomes the ethyl part of the ester and the methyl part, which is only one carbon, becomes the branched part?
