Solve the equation for x. Round to 2 decimal places if necessary. I have no idea how to do this. ln(e^(x))=-4.

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Alright lets get started: Are you familiar with the use of the natural logarithm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only what I can put into a calculator. So not much.

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Ok so lets start off with a basic law: ln(e) = 1.

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Second law we will use: ln(a^b) = bln(a)

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Now put these two laws to use and solve the equation. Let us know if you get stuck.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xln(e), right?

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Yes, correct. xln(e) = 4. Now use the first law which is quoted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X=4?

OpenStudy (sumi29):

Right you are! :-)
