Erica bought 3 1/2 yards of fabric. If she uses 2/3 of the fabric to make a curtain, how much will she have left?
3 1/2 can be made into an improper fraction by multiplying the denominator by the whole number, then adding the numerator to it, while keeping the denominator the same, which comes out to 7/2. Now by using 2/3 of the fabric, you can tell she will only have 1/3 of it left, so you multiply 7/2 by 1/3 to find what she hasn't used, which equals 7/6 yards.
7/6 is not one of the options in the multiple choice. I have 1/6, 1/3, 1 1/6, and 2 1/3. is there a way to convert the answer back to having a whole number?
i got 7/6 too
oh! 7/6 yards but if she uses 2/3 she will have left 1/3
the answer is 1 1/6. but 1/3 is also and answer.. they are tricky!
