c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab(cosC) c^2 = 120^2 + 150^2 - 2*120*150*cos(129.17 degrees) help me please. Every time i solve it i end up getting some outrageous number

An airplane leaves an airport and flies due west 120 miles and then 150 miles in the direction S 39.17°W. How far is the plane from the airport (round to the nearest mile)? this is the original problem

why are you adding on the part of -2ab(cosC)? you could jsut make a right triangle and make the legs the 2 distances they give u with that angle inside one angle of the triangle and solve the hypotenuse
