What is the relative maximum and minimum of the function? f(x) = 2x3 + x2 - 11

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

what did you get for a 1st derivative...?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you will also need a 2nd derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no clue how to even begin this problem

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

have you done calculus...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no this problem is in my algebra 2 class

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

wow... do no differentiating... make it tough...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok, do you have a graphing calculator or graphing software?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I do not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. The relative maximum is at (–1.53, 8.3) and the relative minimum is at (1.2, –12.01). B. The relative maximum is at (–1.53, 12.01) and the relative minimum is at (1.2, –8.3). C. The relative maximum is at (–1.2, 8.3) and the relative minimum is at (1.53, –12.01). D. The relative maximum is at (–1.2, 12.01) and the relative minimum is at (1.53, –8.3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are my answer choices if that helps

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats fine, but if you don't know how to differentiate, or have a graphing application then the answers don't mean much. use this site http://www.wolframalpha.com/ type in graph... then your equation. it will graphing for you. the curve will look something like |dw:1374697632961:dw| hope this helps
