This question reads as if you should look at each triple and assign it a value of 1 if two of the letters of the triple are the same. Any other type triple is assigned a 0. Then, you add all those numbers together for the final answer.
So for this first row: ABA BBB CBA BBA 1 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 2
Now, you do the second row: ACC CBC CCC ACA
