A body moves 30m due north, 20m due east and 30 m due south west. The total displacement covered by body from its initial position is?

OpenStudy (rane):

s = 30n - 20e- 30w = 10n - 30w = -20west

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 10m due west ...the problem is i dnt see how...

OpenStudy (rane):

r u sure its 10, the west part is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u show a figure...how did you work that out?

OpenStudy (rane):

to calculate displacement u have to subtract all the directions, that the object have traveled to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

north - east is north?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u find out the direction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but isnt tht north west?...the question says south west
