Solve -x+6=x-8

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

you can arrange as 6 + 8 = x + x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I kept getting -7 can you show your work Faye281

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

just add then divide

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

6 + 8 = 14 x + x = 2x 2x = 14 -- --- 2 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x + 6 = x - 8 subtract x from both sides -x - x + 6 = x - x - 8 combine like terms -2x + 6 = -8 subtract 6 from both sides -2x + 6 - 6 = -8 - 6 combine like terms -2x = -14 x = -14/-2 (dividing with 2 negatives gives you a positive) x = 7
