I would just use the picture. The vertical leg of the solid triangle is going from -6 to 3 of the y dim so it is 9 in length. The height goes from 6 of the x axis to -6 giving a length of 12 Area, A= 1/2 (9)(12) or 54 sq units. Doing the same thing with the smaller (dashed) triangle we get an area A = 1/2 (3)(4) =6 It is obvious a reduction as it is inside the solid triangle.. The scale factor is|dw:1374788862907:dw|
