A square pyramid of height 8 inches has a volume of 704 cubic inches. If the volume of a similar square pyramid is 88 cubic inches, what is its height?
1 inch 8 inches 2 inches 4 inches
well look at the ratios of the volumes 88:704 is 1 :8 take the cube root of both sides of the ratio to find the linear ratios when you know the linear measurement ratio apply it to a height of 8 inches to find the height of the smaller solid
is it 1 or 8??
well the ratio of volumes small:large 88 : 704 or 1 : 8 there is a bit of math about ratios , linear measurements, areas and volume that says for linear to area square the ratios for linear to volume cube the ratios.. you need to work backwards... you know the ratio of the volumes so take the cube root of each value in the volume ratio to find the linear ratios
so what do you think the linear ratios would be..?
you need to solve \[\sqrt[3]{1}:\sqrt[3]{8}\] to find the linear ratio...
i have no idea how to do that?
ok... well the cube root of 1 is 1 because 1 x 1 x 1 = 1 what number multiplied by itself 3 times will give 8
okayyy & uhhh 2?
thats correct... so now you know the ratio of the linear measurements small : large ratio 1 : 2 measurement x : 8 so what would use say x is equal to..?
2??
wait no 4??
wait no 4??
ahhh lol
thats correct... so that is the height of the smaller prism.. so by looking at the volumes you were able to find the linear ratios... and then apply them to the linear measurements
4 is correct??
yep... thats my opinion of the correct answer
okayy thank you(: you should be a teacher lol
lol... I'm an 8th grader
lol a freaking smart one!!
but I'm on an accelerated program
thats good lol (:
have fun... and math is just about patterns
okay thanks you helped good^.^
